Statement on the 82nd Anniversary of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre
It’s with a heavy heart that today we recognize the 82nd anniversary of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking.
The accounts of survivors, are so horrific that it is hard to believe such acts could have ever been perpetrated. But these horrific crimes did take place.
The Nanjing Massacre, an affront to our common humanity, sadly did occur. And as a result, nearly 300,000 women, men, and children were murdered.
Today, I join fellow Canadians; and the survivors, and victims of the Nanjing Massacre in remembering the horrific events of 1937.
Together we make a solemn promise that we will never forget, and that we will commit ourselves to a future of peace.
